On the eve of the 26th November, Vi-Ability headed to London for the Annual Social Enterprise of the year awards.

Back in 2010, Vi-Ability previously won best UK start-up social Enterprise within 6 months of trading. Little did we know, 5 years on, we would be where we are today!

Best UK Social Enterprise of the year 2015!

For those new to Vi-Ability, Vi-Ability was set up in Conwy in December 2009 by ex-Arsenal, Liverpool and Welsh international footballer Kelly Davies. It provides opportunities for people of all ages to develop skills by offering training, work experience and qualifications in commercial sports management.

In doing this it has helped to sustain thriving community sports clubs and develop stronger communities across Wales, London, Europe and most recently India. Over the last 12 months Vi-Ability has increased income by over 70%, grown capacity from 3 to 16 full time members of staff and expanded into Cardiff and London in partnership with Nesta and the UK Cabinet Office.

Founder & CEO of Vi-Ability, Kelly Davies, commented:

“We are absolutely delighted to win the UK Social Enterprise Year Award, which is fantastic recognition for the hard work all of our staff & volunteers have put into this enterprise over the last five years. To date, 3000 young lives have been changed as a result of our work, with £2.8m being reinvested back into transforming communities, individuals and sports clubs across the UK. It is our vision to be a global flagship for social business, leading the way in sporting enterprise.”

Vi-Ability made it a hatrick for Wales, alongside winners Rhondda-based app developer, Big Click, and Merthyr Valley Homes picked up the Buy Social / Market Builder of the Year award for the way it actively tries to buy goods and services from social enterprises.

This award has really topped off an exciting year for Vi-Ability. It’s an award that really recognises  achievements, hard work and dedication staff and directors put in to changing lives and going the extra mile.

Whilst on the topic of thanks, a big thank you to Deloitte, for their continued support during our growth and having us as part of the ‘Super Pioneers’ programme. As a result of our partnership we are due to launch an innovative new development in 2016, so please watch this space!
